3rd Grade Reading Guarantee
3RD GRADE READING GUARANTEE
The ability to read is the foundation of learning. Research shows that children who are not reading at a third-grade level by the end of grade 3 are likely to have trouble learning in all classroom subjects in higher grades. Students in grades K - 3 are learning to read, after that, they read to learn. That's why developing good reading skills early is important to long term student success.
All third graders take the Ohio State Test in English Language Arts as part of Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee Law which requires students to demonstrate a level of reading proficiency before being promoted to fourth grade.
TEST TIMING
This year, students will take the state reading test in the Fall. There will be several opportunities throughout the year for your student to achieve a passing score and satisfy the promotion requirement.
